Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine and related vitamers) participates in more than 100 enzymatic reactions, most of them involving amino acid and neurotransmitter metabolism — including the synthesis of serotonin, dopamine, and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). It is also required for hemoglobin production and immune function. The RDA is 1.3–1.7 mg per day; poultry, fish, potatoes, and fortified cereals are major sources.
